HOME NATIONS 2025

Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham

Team Wales finished Home Nations on the podium, 2nd overall with 1099.32 GL points — our highest total GL score in our history and a +11 GL improvement on our winning score from the 2023 Championships in Northern Ireland. The squad managed the day well, converting attempts when it mattered and stacking points across the roster. Congratulations to team Scotland on the win and to team Northern Ireland for third place, it’s not often we see solely Celtic nations on the podium.

Placings (GL points)

  • Women — 3rd: 544.41GL

  • Men — 3rd: 554.91GL

  • Overall — 2nd: 1099.32GL

Performance highlights

Becky Clarke produced a great performance. She totalled 400 kg, breaking a Welsh total record that had stood for six years by 10 kg. That’s a significant benchmark and a standard for others to chase.

In the supers, Joseph Walton: a new 120+ Open Welsh squat record at 335 kg on his second attempt, followed by a competitive shot at 342.5 kg on his third that was narrowly missed. The record stands from the second.

Across the team, attempt selection was disciplined: secure openers to get on the board, measured second attempts, and selected thirds taken for position or records.

Coaches & officials

Thank you to the Welsh coaching team for warm-ups, timing, and precise calls throughout both sessions. Head Coach Tom Morgan led the group well — a consistent plan from the platform to the back room.

Recognition to Adam Thomas, Lucy Cohen And Tanya Bull who served as Welsh representative referees at this event.

Looking ahead

2026 features the biennial Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Winnipeg, Canada, a major target for Welsh lifters, and the Home Nations will return with the host nation to be confirmed. Dates, selection windows, and standards will be published on WPA channels as they are finalised.

Summary: podium finish, +11 GL on last year, a historic total from Becky Clarke, and a national record from Joseph Walton. A strong way for Team Wales to close the year and a solid platform for 2026.
